Recyclability of Bento Boxes
Inner tray: We use Tritan (a BPA-free plastic) for the inner tray. Tritan is durable and long-lasting but is not accepted in most curbside recycling programs, so it generally needs to be disposed of in general waste or taken to a specialised recycling facility.
Outer shell: Often made from ABS or polypropylene (PP). PP is sometimes recyclable through local curbside programs (check your local recycling guidelines), whereas ABS is not widely recycled.
Silicone lid/seals: Silicone is not accepted in curbside recycling and should be disposed of in general waste, though some specialty recycling programs do accept it.
Tip for sustainability: Bento boxes are designed to be reusable for years, which makes them more environmentally friendly than single-use containers. Proper care and reuse is the best way to reduce environmental impact.
